We had two great campaign events this past weekend where we talked to well over 100 people. It was the first time that my two kids were also on the trail and they have a fantastic time at the Freedom Fest blowing bubbles and finding clay pottery which, they told me, was part of an “ancient civilization” behind Biggs BBQ. It put a smile on my face.
Every year for the past 20 years I have read the Declaration of Independence out loud on the 4th of July. It is important to our family that our children hear and learn about the Declaration, the Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. Here is hoping that the Freedom Fest continues long into the future so more families and children hear the words that shaped our nation.
Here is an excellent write up of the event by the Lawrence Times: (Bonus photo of me, my wife, and Kristine Polian!)
